In a few days I will start a second group of people through the 2YN class at FM. We'll start with idea generation and go all the way through submission at the end of year two. I have already written over 114,000 words for the class in the first year I gave it. This second group will have it better than group one since I already have the material written so I'll be able to put it all together a little better.
This is year two for the first group and we'll be doing some one-on-one work going over the first three chapters of novels. I have purposely kept my hands out of most of the work until now because I didn't want to put too much of my personal likes and dislikes into everyone's work. Now that they are well into the writing, I feel that I might better help those who might need it.
And about mid-year the 2004 group will get into the final steps for putting novels out. I don't expect everyone in the class to be ready for that step, but we'll cover it. People write at different speeds, and that's the one important aspect of this class that I take into account. After all, if it was a write a novel according to the way zette does it, this would be a two month course rather than a two year one. (grin)
However, two years is a long time to commit to something like this, for both me and them. The first year group is doing very well, though. It's incredibly fun to see how they take the little things that I offer and adapt them to their own work. Of course there are people who (rightfully) dropped out because it did not quite suit them.
I'm looking forward to this!
